Miss you guys.

OOOOokk,

So I went on this trekk to Everest Basecamp. We hiked for about 14 days and it was almost 90 miles round trip. It had it’s…… ups and downs……. but basically, I’ll never do that one again.

We started out excited and eager

We took a Plane from Kathmandu to Lukla ‘airport’, which is a strip of pavement on a mountainside:

We saw cool stuff…..

hiked thru massive mountains……

came across villages in the middle of nowhere…..

mingled with the locals……

crossed some awesome bridges…….

camped in some random spots…

got high off the altitude….

went to the moon (above tree line)….

had some tea there….

got miserable from the altitude…..

got closer to Everest…..

and finally made it to EBC (Everest BaseCamp) at 530meters high….

it was cold, but I DID get one hot shower one of the nights tho…

and we were really stoked to be coming back when we were done….

But in the end, I’m glad I did it. 11 days to get there, 3 to get back- we hauled ass hiking 14 hours a day (even in the dark sharing 1 flashlight) to get home, but it was an experience I’ll never forget…

I wrote a daily journal the whole time, and I’ll type in out and share it when I get a chance, but I dont have time now. We’re back in Kathmandu and Brandon and I are couchsurfing tonight so we gotta get settled in for the night. You can check out the whole Everest Trip album here:

But that’s only Brandon’s cam- there are a bunch of great pics off Caitlin/Maile’s camera that I’m yet to upload. Hopefully soon- there are some priceless ones in there as well, so I’ll be making another post :)

Congrats to America for getting a new president. Good for you guys.

I’m headed to India next after my Indian Visa comes thru next week. Wish me luck :p

Video: Bohol 08 October 1, 2008

So I took some students to Bohol a month or so ago. Bohol is the next island over from Cebu- it’s a little more jungle esk and is about a 2 hour boat ride away.

I put up a flyer on the student board saying I was headed to Bohol for a little weekend adventure, and that anyone was welcome to join. There would be no air-con (A/C), no 5 star resorts, no private vans, and a bunch of hiking involved.

7 people showed up the morning we left. Actually, 8 showed up, but unfortunately one had a family emergency as we were boarding the boat and he had to go back home…

But anyway, it was a good group- about 1/2 korean 1/2 japanese, and we got wasted and had a blast. I arranged for us to stay at a place called NutsHuts. It’s a sweet little collection of huts on the Loboc River in the middle of the jungle. Cheap and secluded, this place was perfect.

Ironically, there were a few other visitors there at the same time. That wasn’t the ironic part tho- the ironic part was that after chatting them up a bit, I came to find out that one of them happened to be a freeborder! He’s from france, got his board from our good buddy Arnaud, and actually knew who I was before I told him. “you’re from SF- I’ve seen your living room” he tells me, lol (he was talking about Tracks, a popular french TV show that aired a special about freebording).

So I made a vid. Now, granted it’s not the sweetest most artistic vid, but gimme a break- I didnt even have a camera on this trip…. this vid was created from the memory cards of some of the students’ still cams. Given what I had to work with, I think it turned out ok, haha. The song’s a bit cleche, but it was the theme-song of our trip so I had no choice but to use it. My computer’s lagging like a bia, but I finally managed to muster up the patience to finnish this thing, so here it is:
